Twinning With Neustadt

In 1996 the then St. Andrew’s with Newland began a twinning arrangement with the Pauluskirche in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany. Neustadt is twinned with Lincoln. It all started when Pfarrer Ludger Mandelbaum from the Pauluskirche visited St. Andrew’s and spoke to the congregation during a morning service. At the following Elders’ meeting it was agreed that one family (they had offered!) would visit Neustadt. They took a video of Lincoln, photographs, tourist information and the good wishes of the Church.
The welcome was fantastic and from that visit many friendships have been made. The two Churches formalised their partnership in 1999.

Visit 2001

Our friends from Neustadt arrived early evening on Thursday 4th October. Friday began by meeting at the Guildhall in Lincoln where we met the Mayor. The history of the building was given, short speeches and an exchange of gifts. Stories surrounding the civic treasures were then recounted. Next stop was a country pub for lunch. The group then split in two; the children went to a local attraction, Sundown Park, the rest visited a power station in the Trent Valley. The evening was spent enjoying home spun entertainment and a good supper in the church hall.

Unsere Freunde aus Neustadt kamen am Donnerstag, den 4.Oktober in Lincoln an. Der Freitag begann mit einem Treffen in der Guildhall (Rathaus) in Lincoln, wo wir von der Bürgermeisterin begrüßt wurden.Wir erfuhren etwas über die Geschichte des Gebäudes, es wurden kurze Reden gehalten und die Gastgeschenke ausgetauscht. Nach einem Mittagessen in einem Country Pub fand der Besuch eines E-Werkes statt, während die Kinder sich im Sundown Park austoben konnten. Am Abend trafen wir uns zu Chorgesang und Volkstanz im Gemeindezentrum

Sunday morning worship involved very many people. The scripture readings were read in German by a member of St. Andrew’s with Newland and in English by a member of the Pauluskirche. The sermon was given in English by Pfarrer Ludger Mandelbaum. Afterwards tea and coffee were served in the hall.


Viele Menschen waren am Sonntagsgottesdienst beteiligt: Die Schriftlesungen wurden von einem Mitglied von St. Andrew’s with Newland in Deutsch gehalten und umgekehrt. Die Predigt hielt Pfarrer Ludger Mandelbaum auf englisch. Anschließend gab es Tee und Kaffee im Gemeindesaal.
